Solving the Puzzle of Cloud Computing in the Insurance Industry

For example, one of our esteemed clients, India First Life, the twenty-third entrant into the Indian life insurance industry, launched its operations in November 2009, with a presence in over one thousand cities and over ten thousand points of sale, and was embarking on a digital transformation journey. India First Life is revising its IT strategy to meet the problem posed by a conventional business model that primarily relied on a legacy platform with limited capacity to stay up with current IT technology and Innovation. Some of the obstacles encountered were listed below:

Capability for Digital Transformation and Customer Experience
Cost Savings in Technology Operations
Managing the complications of several service providers
Increasing availability and performance
Technological obsolescence and limited ROI extraction duration

CDWT joined IFL as a strategic technology partner to assist them in achieving their business objectives.

Initially, the old mainframe-based application was maintained, while the peripheral key insurance applications were selected for cloud migration as part of the multi-year transition to create a world-class insurance client experience. As part of a modernization effort, CDWT outlined the efforts and put out a staged strategy to expedite the India First Life Digital Transformation implementation.

PHASE 01: MANAGED SERVICES

Transition of managed services from an existing service provider to CDWT for over 1300 IT assets, in addition to support for AS 400 for the core datacenter. To offer a single SLA for its mission-critical systems, CDWT integrated their entire helpdesk and support.

PHASE 02: IMPLEMENTING HYBRID CLOUD FOR DR

The Collocation and Cloud Hybrid Model was presented. Group Asia and Life Asia apps were colocated; the other applications were transferred to the cloud with 39 instances and hourly billing for improved cost management. This supplied them with the much-needed real DR-as-a-Service on demand.

PHASE 03: CLOUDIFICATION OF PRIMARY ON CLOUD ON

India transferred the complete physical UAT configuration to a cloud platform with 63 instances, including Oracle VM, as a first step. The success of the UAT environment was mirrored in Primary Instance's complete production environment.

The reference architecture listed below was utilised.
